PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP)

PRP, also known as the Vampire Facial™, is your own platelet rich plasma manufactured right in your own body. It is a protein responsible for keeping the tissues and muscles tight and strong. Platelet  has a well-documented history of being used in orthopedics, dentistry and reconstructive surgery.  This successful history has led the leaders in PRP research to recognize the endless possibilities of PRP and facial rejuvenation. Studies dating back 30 years have proven that PRP grows new collagen when injected into the skin. More recent studies have also shown PRP to improve:

  • Scars
  • Lines & wrinkles around the mouth
  • Wrinkles, skin texture, and lax skin in the neck and Décolletage
  • Facial volume
  • Dark circles and bags under the eyes
  • Signs of sun damage (pigment, texture, vascularity, tone and large pores)
  • Stimulation of new hair growth in men and women with thinning hair

How PRP Works

First a small amount of blood is taken from your arm. (Hence the name Vampire Facial™) The blood is placed into a centrifuge and spun to create a plasma serum rich in platelets. The platelets are the key that contains the growth factors to stimulate and rejuvenate collagen or new hair growth. Collagen is the most important element to restore, repair and aid in a more youthful appearance.

How PRP Is Made Effective for You

PRP can be used as a single modality treatment or in combination with the following treatments, depending on the patient’s overall desired outcome

  • PRP and Microneedling when combined enhance collagen production. Microneedling makes tiny “wounds” in the skin which creates pathways for the PRP to enter into the deeper layers of the skin. Microneedling, by itself, creates collagen stimulation from a wound effect in the skin. However, when PRP is added to the pathway the effectiveness of both modalities is doubled! It is like adding an exercise routine to your diet.
  •  PRP improves overall quality, tightness, texture and long term volume when combined with man-made injectable fillers like: Juvederm, Voluma, Restylane, and Perlane. These fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid that is naturally found in your skin to provide hydration and volume. Hyaluronic acid fillers provide instant renewal of fine lines, overall volume and fullness. PRP and Hyaluronic fillers when combined sufficiently amplify the results!
  •  PRP, as a single modality treatment, is injected into the skin to target specific areas that need more attention. These areas may be around the eyes, lip lines, necklace lines or deep scarring areas. PRP is a great alternative for people who do not wish to have other fillers due to potential allergies or a fear of the filler giving them an “unnatural” appearance.

Patients typically receive a series of treatments. Series could be 3-6 depending on the amount of correction needed. The treatments are scheduled at regular intervals to get the most benefit from PRP therapy. There is minimal downtime to the procedures usually 48 hours or less. Typical results, after a series of PRP treatments, could last up to 18 months. Patients who want to be more proactive could have bi-annual or annual treatments to keep the results consistent after the initial series.
