Genius® RF Microneedling vs. Traditional Microneedling: What’s The Difference?
Genius® RF Microneedling is an advanced radiofrequency microneedling treatment that provides more dramatic results with fewer side effects and almost no downtime. It involves the use of ultrafine needles to penetrate the skin’s surface. During this skin rejuvenation treatment, tiny needle pinpricks create quick-healing microscopic wounds in the middle layer of skin, called the dermis. This encourages a natural healing response as the first step of the treatment prompts increased production of collagen and elastin to make the skin more volumized and tighter.
Genius® RF Microneedling also has another step: introducing radiofrequency (RF) waves in the channels created by the needles to make the collagen-generation process work faster and more effectively. Who is a Good Candidate for Genius® RF Microneedling?
Genius® RF Microneedling is safe for many skin types, including darker skin tones. It’s an ideal treatment for patients who have burn scarring, traumatic scars, or acne scars. However, patients who are currently using or have recently taken Accutane, or those with open wounds, skin infections, an active cold sore breakout, a moderate to severe skin disease, or who are taking anticoagulants, have had a radiation treatment within the past year, are prone to keloid, hypertrophic, or poor wound scarring, or are pregnant or breastfeeding should choose a different option.
The Genius® RF Microneedling procedure is ideal for patients who want fast results with minimal recovery time. Generally, anyone who is in good health, is experiencing early signs of aging, and maintains realistic expectations could benefit from Genius® RF Microneedling.
What Happens Before and After Genius® RF Microneedling Sessions?
During your consultation, we will go over your medical history and expectations, while providing advice on how to prepare for the procedure. Genius® RF Microneedling is a simple and quick non-surgical treatment. As very little trauma is caused to the skin, there is less downtime in comparison to some other types of skin rejuvenation techniques. It may take up to seven days to completely recover, although the exact timeline varies from patient to patient.
Usually, patients can return to work within one day after Genius® RF Microneedling. Some minor side effects such as redness, tightness, itchiness, peeling, warm sensations on the skin, dryness, and mild skin swelling may occur. It’s best to avoid wearing makeup for the first 24 hours. The skin gradually improves over the following days and weeks as collagen levels rise. Patients can best maximize their results by scheduling three Genius® RF Microneedling treatments, each set four to eight weeks apart.
