How Does Sculptra® Differ from Other Injectable Fillers?

At Radiance Skin Therapy, we make a point of providing a wide range of treatments, since different patients require different strategies to achieve their unique goals. When it comes to addressing volume loss in the skin, a common solution is injectable dermal fillers. Many of these treatments have a hyaluronic acid base, which gives them the ability to restore volume for results that are visible right away. We tend to use these injectables on the face—but they are not the only option. We also offer an injectable known as Sculptra® for Madison-area patients.

Here are several key ways Sculptra® differs from the hyaluronic acid-based fillers.

Collagen-Inducing Formula

Instead of providing volume that can be seen as soon as the injections are completed, Sculptra®generates more gradual results. As opposed to hyaluronic acid, Sculptra® has poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) as its active ingredient. Taking the form of micro-particles injected into the skin, PLLA stimulates collagen production for added volume. Collagen synthesis takes time, so the results develop throughout the weeks after an injection session.

Duration and Effect

Since the results from Sculptra® injections are based on the body’s own collagen production, they are especially natural-looking and long-lasting. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers tend to last anywhere from six months to two years, while the collagen built naturally can last two years or longer.

Treatment Areas

Our team at Radiance Skin Therapy likes to think outside the box, which is why we consider more than just the face when it comes to Sculptra® treatments. Not only do we use it for mid-face and temple hollowing, as well as lines in the mouth area, but so-called off-label treatments include smoothing the décolletage and contouring the buttocks. Basically, if you need collagen somewhere, we can work with you to build it!

Should You Choose Sculptra®?

You certainly don’t have to decide which injectable filler would be best for you on your own. Our team at Radiance Skin Therapy and Laser Center will meet with you for a personalized consultation and help you to chart the best path forward for achieving your cosmetic goals. We can help you choose between hyaluronic acid fillers and collagen stimulators—or another treatment as needed or desired. Contact us online to arrange a consultation, or call us at 608.240.0088.
