BOTOX® has been approved by the FDA to treat three cosmetic issues: frown lines, crow’s feet, and upper forehead wrinkles. The formula has also been approved for treating a range of medical conditions, including excessive sweating in the underarms, which is known as hyperhidrosis.
Since it is such a widely used product with a lengthy history of study and medical applications, it can also be safely and effectively used in other ways, known as “off-label” uses. There is minimal to no downtime required after BOTOX® injections, although there are a few safety restrictions to be aware of: Patients should avoid exercise, hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas for 24 hours. Also, avoid putting pressure on the injection sites during this time.

The muscle-relaxing effects of BOTOX® wear off after a matter of roughly three to four months, as muscles regain the ability to properly receive acetylcholine and begin to move once again. With that motion, the visible wrinkles will return as well. The formula is safe for repeated use, so new sessions can be scheduled as required.
In fact, BOTOX® is not just a corrective treatment, but a preventative as well. With consistent use, muscles get weaker and lines will continue to diminish.
