Photorejuvenation with IPL

Intense Pulsed Light in Madison, WI

Light can have a negative or positive impact on the skin. Ultraviolet radiation from the sun, for instance, can cause cosmetic damage and worse, while focused light, properly applied, can reverse early signs of aging. Radiance Skin Therapy uses a light-based device for beneficial photorejuvenation: IPL. Madison-area women and men who want to address anything from discrete pigmentation problems to overall skin tone and texture can enjoy a brighter, more even look.

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. This treatment involves pulses of multiple wavelengths that heat the skin and promote change.

We treat a range of pigmentation issues with IPL at Madison, WI’s Radiance Skin Therapy. The IPL offered at Radiance Skin Therapy visibly improves pigmentation issues, age and sunspots, vascularity, general redness, and overall skin appearance. We use the Alma Iris Dye-VL for IPL. This treatment uses Advanced Fluorescence Technology (AFT) for photorejuvenation. It targets aged or photodamaged skin, vascular lesions, and dyschromia to provide a clearer, more even complexion. This IPL system allows us to treat conditions and imperfections caused by sun damage and other environmental stressors. The energy-based treatment targets pigmented cells to improve overall pigmentation, as well as the look of age/sunspots, visible vessels, rosacea, acne, and overall skin health.

Are IPL Treatments Right for You?

We encourage each person to share their ultimate cosmetic goals with us at an initial consultation, as well as point out any specific cosmetic concerns they have. This, plus a skin assessment, will allow us to create a custom-designed plan. Each person’s situation and desires will be different, so the types and numbers of treatments will vary from person to person.

In cases where IPL is deemed the most appropriate treatment, we will explain the specific light source being used, as well as what to do to prepare for the session itself and how to best care for your skin after.

Photorejuvenation with intense pulsed light (IPL) at Madison’s Radiance Skin Therapy can treat a range of cosmetic issues, including texture and tone irregularities, damage and dullness due to ultraviolet radiation damage and aging, mild acne scars, redness from blood vessels, and more.
What to Expect from an IPL Session

Using IPL, spots and other pigment-based problems take days to weeks to correct, leading to clearer skin. Similarly, collagen takes time to build up in the skin when renewed production starts, so the look of wrinkles, laxity, and other signs of aging will gradually improve in the weeks and months after a session or series of treatments.

After an IPL treatment, be sure to avoid or minimize ultraviolet radiation exposure, as your skin will be particularly sensitive to sunlight in the following days. Wear a suitable sunscreen when going outdoors (even on overcast days), keep treated skin covered by clothing, and avoid peak sunlight hours by staying inside. Once the skin heals, you can resume typical daily activities—though you should always wear proper sunscreen.
