Sculptra® Aesthetic
Add Volume and Stimulate New Collagen in Madison, WI
Sculptra® Aesthetic at Madison’s Radiance Skin Therapy is an FDA-approved facial injectable that helps gradually replace lost collagen, adding volume to correct shallow to deep folds and other facial wrinkles. The loss of facial volume caused by the breakdown of collagen is a key factor in the aging appearance, a process that often begins in our 30s. Collagen acts as the support structure for your skin, giving overall volume and shape to your face. Often with a series of treatments, we can slow the breakdown of collagen and even stimulate new collagen to replace what was lost.
We are a “think outside the box” group of ladies at Radiance Skin Therapy, which is why we also love this product for other areas of the body, such as the décolletage and contouring the butt (these uses are considered off-label). Sculptra® for the décolletage is great for smoothing wrinkles and building collagen to strengthen the tissue. This improves the overall texture and appearance of the skin. Who doesn’t want that? Sculptra® for butt contouring adds more shape and volume and acts as an alternative for those not wanting surgery.
How Does Sculptra® Work?
Sculptra® Aesthetic is injected into the skin, adding volume that is visible right away. In a few days, the initial volume diminishes, leaving poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) micro particles to begin stimulating growth of your own natural collagen to replenish volume. This can restore a natural more youthful look that can last two years or more.
Where is Sculptra® Aesthetic Used?
At Radiance Skin Therapy, we use Sculptra® Aesthetic for rejuvenation in the following areas (some may be considered off-label): hollowing in the face, including temples and mid cheek areas; overall volume in the face for a more youthful look; smoothing fine lines around the mouth; often in conjunction with other dermal fillers, for finishing touches where collagen building is needed; décolletage for smoothing wrinkles and building collagen; and butt contouring for more shape and volume, whether to maintain a surgical butt lift or for those not wanting the surgical option.
Does Sculptra® Hurt?
We offer our clients a topical numbing agent to reduce the minimal discomfort that injections can sometimes cause. We also use a chill plate to cool the injection site for added comfort. Most of our clients report minimal sensation during the treatment with these methods.
Are There Any Sculptra® Side Effects or Other Safety Information?
The most common side effects in clinical studies were injection site swelling, tenderness, redness, pain, bruising, bleeding, and itching. Most side effects were mild and went away on their own. Occasionally other patients encountered more serious side effects that required treatment and lasted for seven to 10 days.
Other side effects may include small lumps under the skin that are sometimes noticeable when pressing on the treated area. Larger lumps, some that appeared months or more than a year after treatment, with or without swelling or skin discoloration, have also been reported. Some of these lumps were serious and required additional treatment or even surgery.
