Laser Hair Removal (LHR)
For men and women who are seeking a more permanent alternative to shaving, plucking, and waxing, we offer professional laser hair removal treatments at Radiance Skin Therapy to keep your skin stubble-free!
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser or light energy is selectively absorbed by the melanin in hair follicles and converted to heat, diffusing to and injuring stem cells in the bulb and bulge. Effective hair reduction can only be achieved during the active growth phase and hair reduction is considered permanent when a significant amount of hair does not return for a period of time longer than the complete growth cycle. After a series of treatments, most hair is permanently removed. However, if hair does regrow, it will be finer and lighter than before. (Information provided by Sciton.com)
Who Would Benefit From Laser Hair Removal?
This treatment is designed for anyone with unwanted hair. With two options for laser, the BBL from Sciton and the LightSheer from Lumenis, we are able to treat all skin types safely and effectively, including skin types V and VI.
How many treatments will I need?
A series of six treatments four weeks apart is recommended for the best results. After the first treatment the hair starts growing in slower, becomes patchy with subsequent treatments, then eventually you can expect an 80% permanent reduction in the unwanted hair.
What does the Laser feel like?
While it is very tolerable, it can feel like a warm snap of a rubber band. After the treatment, you might feel like you have a mild sunburn. A cool towel or ice pack may be applied if necessary.
What should I expect after the treatment?
Some redness along with some slight swelling may be present in the area treated. This result is temporary and should recede within a few hours. Keep the treated area clean and use at least an SPF 30 for when you are outdoors.
Is there anything I need to avoid before and after the treatment?
- Sun exposure: No active tanning or prolonged sun exposure for three weeks prior to the treatment and one week after.
- Do not use Retin-A on the area to be treated three to five days before and after the treatment.
- No hot-tubs, saunas, steam rooms, or working out for twenty-four hours after the treatment to avoid excess heat in the treated area.
Please advise your technician if you are on any photosensitive medications or if there are any changes to your medical history.
