What is Different About Our Laser?
At Radiance Skin Therapy we use a device called SPLENDOR X. What sets this machine apart is the technology, speed, safety and added comfort.
SPLENDOR X, by Lumenis ®, uses a patented combination of both Alexandrite & YAG laser technology. This combination allows us to safely treat all skin tones and a variety of hair types. It also provides the ability to safely treat during Summer months.
SPLENDOR X offers quick, comfortable treatments. Often a man’s full back can be treated in less than 30 minutes because of the revolutionary square spot size. This X technology also offers added comfort features such as a plume evacuator eliminating any toxic smoke or hair smell, as well as an attached cold air mechanism making the quick treatment an overall great experience.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
The laser hair removal device emits focused light energy into the skin, where pigmented cells in the hair follicles absorb it and convert it to heat. This heat damages important cells in the follicle, effectively disabling it. The hair growth is stunted for a significant period of time and will vary based on individual factors such as hormones, genetics, and more. If growth does occur, the hair is often finer and lighter in color.
Laser hair removal only works on follicles that are in their active growth phase, which is about 85 percent of a person’s hairs at a given time. Hair reduction is considered “permanent” when a significant amount of hair does not return for a period of time longer than a complete growth cycle. After a series of treatments, most hair is removed to this degree.
How Many Laser Hair Removal Sessions Are Necessary?
We recommend a series of six to eight sessions. Facial hair removal sessions are typically spaced four weeks apart, while body hair removal sessions are spaced six to eight weeks apart for the best results. This ensures maximum hairs “caught” by a treatment during their active phase.
After the first treatment, your hair will start growing in slower. Subsequent treatments will cause the hair to become patchy. You can eventually expect an 80 percent reduction in the unwanted hair.
What Does a Laser Hair Removal Session Feel Like?
While it is very tolerable, the treatment can feel like a warm snap of a rubber band. After the session, you might feel like you have a mild sunburn, and your skin will appear red to match. A cool towel or ice pack may be applied if necessary to relieve discomfort.
There may also be some slight swelling in the treated area. This result is temporary and should recede within a few hours. Keep the treated area clean and use at least an SPF 30 for when you are outdoors.

Is There Anything I Need to Avoid Before and After the Treatment?
Please shave the treatment area(s) 24 to 48 hours before your scheduled appointment. Avoid using sunless tanner, tanning beds, or sun exposure before and in between sessions. Do not use Retin-A on the area to be treated three to five days before and after the session. Avoid hot-tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and working out for 24 hours after the treatment to avoid excess heat on the treated area.
During your consultation and just prior to the laser hair removal treatment itself, please advise your technician if you are on any photosensitive medications or if there are any changes to your medical history.
